Overview

Solitude Ski Resort is the place in Utah to head when it dumps all night. Let the minions scatter for Snowbird or Alta. You'll have Solitude practically to yourself (hence the name). Rarely does Big Cottonwood Canyon close and even less frequently is there traffic. Plus, there’s never a wait in a lift line and plenty of fresh tracks to be had long after the other resorts are tracked out. Some may complain that Solitude’s chairs are ancient and slow but that's starting to change as more high-speed quad chairlifts are installed. However, it will still take you two or three chairs to ski laps in Honeycomb Canyon- the crowning glory of the 1200-acre resort.

Location

Solitude is located 40 minutes from the Salt Lake International Airport via I-80 east to I-215 south. Exit at 6200 S and head south on Wasatch Blvd. to Big Cottonwood Canyon. The resort is 12 miles up the road. FYI- There is no cell reception in the canyon so make your calls before entering or once you're on the hill.

Season/Hours

Winter operations run mid-Nov. - mid- April, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. with the upper sections of the mountain closing at 3:30 p.m.

8 lifts, snowmaking, 2,047 ft. (624 m) Vertical Drop, ski school, two rental shops, beginner terrain park, backcountry guide service, Nordic center, ice skating, 5 lodging properties, spa, village store, pizzeria, 2 on-mountain cafeterias, 2 pubs and 2 sit-down 4-star restaurants.
