Mountain Safety

You can enjoy the slopes of the surrounding ski resorts of Park City in many ways, during all seasons. Regardless of the season, or the manner in which you are enjoying the mountains, always be aware that there are elements of risk in both winter and summer sports. Be courteous of others and be sure to use common sense and stay aware.

Although the activities may be different due to the change in the seasons, mountain safety is always the highest priority. During the winter, Park City is a favorite site for alpine skiing, snowboarding, telemark skiing, cross-country skiing, etc. In addition, disabled skiers are often seen on the slopes. Consideration and courtesy should be given to others who are enjoying the slopes. Some guidelines follow:

• Ski in control at all times.
• People in front of you have the right of way.
• Do not stop in a position where you obstruct a trail or are not visible from above.
• If merging into a trail or starting midway on a slope, check uphill and yield to others.
• Safety devices to avoid runaway equipment are mandatory.
• Observe and obey all posted signs and warnings.
• Be familiar with all aspects of riding any ski lift.
In the summer, the mountains surrounding Park City are filled with individuals who are hiking or biking through the scenic area. To insure the safety of all visitors, certain conduct is expected. A few guidelines follow:

• Obey all posted signs
• Always wear a helmet when riding
• If you are unsure of the terrain, walk your bike.
• Never ride or hike alone.
• Be prepared for emergencies.
• Notify mountain personnel if you need first aid.
• Do not stop where you obstruct a trail or are not visible to others.
• No smoking on lifts or on the mountain due to fire danger.
• Please – no littering.
• Stay off roads not specifically designated for public use.
• Be aware that vehicles may be encountered at any time.
• Observe all posted warnings and use common sense when using any of the attractions, i.e. Alpine Slide, Chairlifts, and Zip Ride.
