The Heber City, Utah area is a perfect destination when you want some incredible outdoor fun for the whole family. Located in a lovely valley, you’ll find all the activities you could desire, with ideal temperatures and friendly people. The scenery is breathtaking and makes for a true adventure paradise.
Just a short trip from the Wasatch Mountains, Heber City offers some of the best for outdoor enthusiasts. There is so much to see and do, you’ll not know where to start first. But take you time, plan your day, and you’ll discover you’re having the best vacation ever.
Heber Valley is primarily a dairy and mining community, so you’ll find the atmosphere quite rural. However, it is so close to exciting destinations, you’ll be happy you made Heber City your base. You can drive 20 miles north and reach Park City, or take a side trip 50 miles northwest to come to Salt Lake City. But you’ll find all you need right here in and around Heber City. This marvelous town is referred to as “Little Switzerland” because of the surrounding snow-capped mountains combined with the rich agricultural land.
Summer is the Best
Cool temperatures and lovely weather highlight the summer. Arriving in Heber City, you’ll discover everyone out and about to enjoy the vacation atmosphere. There are many places to visit, and you should make a list of the ones you want to see.
- In Wasatch Mountain State Park you can get the kinks out by going hiking or horseback riding. Camping here is a favorite too. You’ll also have an opportunity to work on that golf game.
- Deer Creek State Park and Jordanelle State Park both have beautiful reservoirs. This will make boating, water skiing and fishing your top entertainment here. They also have wonderful campgrounds and picnic areas.
- Ashley National Forest is close by and the Uintas are a gorgeous mountain area within the park. Ideal for hiking, backpacking and hunting, the Uintas attract many adventurers into its forests. You have 460,000 acres of backpacking country, which is the one of the favorite pastime of visitors here. The other is fishing in one of over 500 game fish lakes.
- Strawberry Reservoir is a fisherman’s dream. You’ll have some great catches of large rainbow trout. Cutthroat trout and kokanee salmon will also bite well. The fish are big too! In 1930, someone catch the record catch of a cutthroat weighing in at 27 pounds. The reservoir is open to year-round fishing with December through February great for ice fishing.
- Drive the scenic byways such as the Alpine Loop Scenic Backway, also known as Highway 92. It circles around Mount Timpanogos. If you take the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway (Highway 150), you will climb through the Utinta Mountains and up to more than 10,000 feet.
