Fishing //
For a fishing experience of a lifetime, plan a fishing trip to Utah's premier trout fishery, Strawberry Reservoir. This body of water has the honor of being the location where the largest cutthroat trout in Utah was caught in 1930. It weighed twenty-seven pounds. This is the spot for large rainbow trout, kokanee salmon and cutthroat trout.
The fish in Strawberry Reservoir grow quickly. Many of the fish in the Reservoir are the result of natural reproduction. However, the Reservoir is still managed by the Utah Game and Fish and some species of fish are stocked on a regular basis.
Found just sixty-five miles east of the Wasatch Mountains, the Reservoir sits at an elevation of 7,602 feet. The majority of Strawberry Reservoir is contained within the lands, which comprise a portion of the Uinta National Forest.
Strawberry Valley, which Strawberry Reservoir is a part of, provides a variety of fishing opportunities from catch and release fishing on reservoir tributaries to trophy cutthroat and rainbow trout fishing on the Reservoir. The Reservoir is open to fishing year round.
For the most part, anglers fishing from boats and float tubes do better than shore anglers do. Bank anglers find good action during spring and fall, when the water is cold and the fish can range freely. Water near the surface warms during summer and so fish seek deeper areas where temperatures are more comfortable. January and February provide the best ice fishing success. Strawberry Reservoir is also a favorite float tube destination.
