Attractions //
The Uinta National Forest is located toward the southern end of the Wasatch Front. It encompasses about one million acres and is visited by many Salt Lake City and Provo residents who love to camp, hike, fish, horseback ride, and just enjoy the beauty of the rugged mountains and thick forest. Take a scenic tour along the Mount Nebo Loop, a 32 mile loop through magnificent valleys and steep canyon walls. You can access many trailheads, picnic areas, and camping spots along this scenic drive. You won't miss Mount Timpanogos within the Uinta National Forest, standing high above its surroundings at 11,750 feet.
Uinta National Forest was named after a Ute word meaning a pine forest or tree, "Yoov-we-teuh." The National Forest used to be known as the Uintah Forest Reserve, created by President Cleaveland in 1897. In the early 1900s Uinta lost the original "h" ending and in 1907 the Reserve was split into the Uinta, Wasatch-Cache, and Ashley National Forests. Come meander through the Uinta National Forest and see for yourself why so many visitors come back every year.
