The original Summit County Courthouse was located in a log cabin in the bustling town of Wanship, the business hub of 1861. But when tons of coal was found in Coalville, the courthouse was quickly relocated. Built in 1903, the courthouse has gone through many changes and remodeling projects. A jailhouse was added. The ceilings were lowered. Another floor was added. A new jail was built and the old jail cells were turned into offices. The courthouse is now on the National Register of Historic Places.
Take a look at the modern mixed in with the historic. Not only does the Summit County Courthouse itself tell a story of history, but take a look inside and you will quickly learn why so many called this region of Utah home in the 1800s.
