Rockport State Park & Reservoir
Rockport State Park encompases a 500 acre reservoir, the riparian zone surrounding Weber River, and a beautiful pinyon and juniper forest. Visitors travel to the park to take part in its fly fishing opportunities, to swim, sail, waterski, hike, camp, bird watch, and cross country ski. There are many areas to camp and plenty of ways to fill your days at Rockport State Park and Reservoir.
Rockport State Park and Reservoir is located just outside of Park City, Utah. The area was named for a rock fort that was used as a defense mechanism against Native Americans. In 1957, 200 residents were forced to pack up and leave the area. The US Bureau of Reclamation had purchased the land in order to build the Wanship Dam, creating a 3 by 1.5 mile lake.
The park and reservoir are known for great wildlife and bird viewing. Migrating waterfowl like Tundra Swans, loons, Bald Eagle, Sage Grouse, Lewis's Woodpecker, Northern Shrike, American Dipper, Green-tailed and Spotted Towhees frequent the area on their way to another destination. Other wildlife can be seen throughout the forested areas. Keep watch for mule deer, jackrabbits, marmots, badgers, fox, moose, elk, coyotes, and even cougars. Take a vacation and enjoy the nature within Rockport State Park.
