Utah has many scenic byways. One of the most enjoyable is the thirty-two mile route known as the Provo Canyon Scenic Byway. The Provo Canyon Scenic Byway is just a short side trip off the Alpine Scenic Loop. This scenic byway takes the traveler past Bridal Veil Falls, Deer Creek Reservoir and finally on to the picturesque Heber Valley.

Traveling along the Provo Canyon Scenic Byway, you will travel past the Sundance Resort, through the Uinta National Forest and the Timpanogos Cave National Monument. Depending on the amount of time that you spend at any of these particular locations and at the various scenic vistas along the way, this thirty-two mile route can take you an hour or a day.

For the majority of the route, the Provo Canyon Scenic Byway runs parallel to the Provo River. Bring your fly-fishing rod along and enjoy casting your line into the River – one of the most popular fly-fishing sports in Utah. At the top of Provo Canyon, you can enjoy sailing, boating, fishing and windsurfing in Deer Creek Reservoir. You can also see Soldier Hollow State Park nearby which was a venue for the 2002 Winter Olympics.

All along the way, you will see scenic beauty including waterfalls cascading over steep limestone cliffs, the flat water of the Provo River, and the sandy beaches of the Deer Creek Reservoir. Bring along a picnic lunch and find a great scenic spot along the Provo Canyon Scenic Byway.
