The Alpine Scenic Loop Byway is a great 20-mile route that takes you through steep alpine canyons as you wind your way through the Wasatch Mountain Range. The entire twenty miles is paved, but the Loop is only open from about late May until late October. During the remainder of the year, snow closes the road. The Alpine Scenic Loop Byway is not recommended for any vehicle over thirty feet in length.
When visiting the Park City area of Utah, take an incredible yet easy drive along the Alpine Scenic Loop. Only twenty miles long, this scenic byway is filled with spectacular views including views of Mount Timpanogos. Other glacier-carved peaks rise high above you as you travel Utah Highway 92 up the American Fork Canyon and then on through the Uinta National Forest and finally into the Provo Canyon on US 189.
Attractions along the way include the Timpanogos Cave National Monument and Robert Redford's Sundance. If you take a short detour, you will also be able to enjoy Cascade Springs. Cascade Springs is an alpine spring that is criss-crossed by a ¼-mile boardwalk enabling visitors to walk out over the pristine, clear natural ponds and the various pools teeming with fish and aquatic plants.
If you are traveling in the early spring or late fall, be sure to check with local officials to determine the current status of the road. The Alpine Loop is open seasonally during warm weather.
